American Mediation Services, Inc. recognizes that parties trying to resolve a conflict or dispute may be encountering difficulties initiating the negotiation process or may have reached an impasse after beginning to negotiate on their own. At American Mediation Services, Inc., mediation is a voluntary process where the parties work with the assistance of a trained Mediator who helps the parties to identify and prioritize the objectives or goals involved in their conflict or dispute.

The role of the Mediator is to facilitate communication between the parties that is designed to educate each party about their needs and interests. The Mediator then helps the parties to exchange specific resources that help eliminate barriers that are preventing the parties from resolving their conflicts or disputes. Finally, the Mediator assists the parties in identifying reasonable options that can be mutually agreed to in resolving their conflicts or disputes.
